Largest Rooftop Solar Installation in Los Angeles

A $10M Installation at the Cruise Terminal of the Port of Los Angeles. This is the largest rooftop solar installation in Los Angeles. Completed in 2010, the selection of the roof involved the early use of AI to determine the best rooftop location for such a large photovoltaic system.

Homeland Security Survellance Installation

A port-wide (huge area!) survellaince system for the Port of LA, commissioned following 9/11. Involved complex architecture of fiber optic networks, microwave transmissions, and storage technologies. Early use of AI detection algorithms.Cooperative project between Port of LA administration and federal Homeland Security.

Massive Area Fiber Optic Communication Network Troubleshooting

Resolving network issues in the entire Port of LA power equipment communication network. The equipment layout was spread out over many miles, and complex traversals underwater.

City of Tacoma

Modern Network TV Station

Design and build of a local cable television network station, "TV Tacoma". We use an analogous smaller scale version of this configuration for client podcast setups.

Wireless Fleet Management System

Developed and installed a wireless fleet management system for the City of Tacoma vehicles.Primarily used to convert vehicle tracking data from manual hand-written processes, to automated digital systems that was far more accurate.

Unattended Security Infrastructure for Geographic Assets

The City of Tacoma has several remote buildings and locations that are unattended that required real-time security monitoring. A mix of wired and wireless architectures needed to be used for this project.

Sale of the ISP to a private company

Delicate project management for a publicly sensitive and unique sale. The City of Tacoma owned ISP was sold to a local private company. A very politically sensitive situation for the city. The project required meticulous organization, prioritization of urgent tasks, and precise execution of action items.

Authoring the LADWP Engineering Reference Manual

Created and wrote a complete set of standard operating procedures (SOP) for the entire engineering department of the largest municipal utility in the country.Procedure narratives were produced as well as the process diagrams, using sophisticated software management of references, appendices, formatting, and versioning.

Federal and Local Government Contract Administration

Contract administrattion for several $100M government contracts.Required complex coordination between various political entities, legal groups, and subject-matter experts.
Image alt text

Cybersecurity

Implementation of Cybersecurity to enterprise system architectures. Conforming to North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) procedures and policies.
Image alt text

Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Development and Installation

Engineering and management for the design and installation of EV chargers spanning the entire city of LA. Many of the public chargers now enjoyed by the LA citizens are due to this project. This project featured the city's first municipal fleet conversion to EVs.

Smart Grid Development for Los Angeles

Development of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems, facilitating the conversion of LA's analog meters to smart meters. Comprising of highly intricate system architectures. Implementation of Demand Response technologies in collaboration with UCLA, USC, and federal grants. Collection and analysis of customer behavior data, which was integrated into the overarching Smart Grid systems.

Solar Rebate Program

Management of LADWP's solar rebate program which involved the Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) for residents to tie their solar power installations to the electric grid.

Startup Technology Projects

Dental 3D-Printing Technology Startup

Set up operational procedures and corporate practices from scratch. Developed consistent launch processes for new products. Advised on system architecture and technology to incorporate into the company's processes. Acted as right-hand arm of the CEO and top executives. As the company was growing from 50 to 500 people, we helped hire executives and create the following departments: Product Management, Software Development, Engineering R&D, IT, Project Management, Operations, Marketing.

Solar Research and Development

Product development for solar monitoring devices. Incorporating AI applications into the devices. Analysis of existing devices in the industry for longevity, quality, and financial suitablity for warranty programs.

Universities and Education

Professional Engineering License Training Courses

Creation of training resources (books, videos) for professional engineers trying to pass the licensing exam. Revolutionary, unique material used by over 80% of the industry since inception in 2011. Free videos have over 300k views. Private training sessions for industry leading companies (e.g Schneider Electric). AI and LLM used in content creation, long before it was popular with the public. Published white papers.

UC Berkeley IT Services

IT service troubleshooter for the UC Berkeley campus. Relied upon to solve any computer related issues the professors and administrators would have. This was during the 90's, so relatively early for the IT industry.Additionally, we created websites for the university which was also in the very early years of web development.

UC Berkeley Robotics Lab

Built locomotive robots that mimicked the movements of cockroaches. Early use of AI and predictive algorithms (~1998). Authored scientific articles and studies. Results were eventually used in Mars space missions.
